Half Moon Bay Photographer for Maternity Portraits

Rugged cliffs that drop off into the ocean and stunning views make a Half Moon Bay photography session top of the list for gorgeous portraits. Beach portraits are always a beautiful choice for photography, but there is nothing quite like the Half Moon Bay coastline to add extra drama to your photos.

Half Moon Bay attracts families from all over California because of its beauty. Those who live locally know that the weather is always a surprise and a heavy marine layer is just as likely as sunny skies. Either way, your photos will turn out beautiful!

Even on the drive over, it might seem like the weather will be one way, but then when you get to the beach, it’s the opposite. For this session below, the marine layer was just rolling in after a day of sun. Look how dreamy the fog looks!

Things to Know When you Book a Half Moon Bay Photographer

  • Half Moon Bay is known for its thick marine layer, and it’s likely that your session will be foggy, especially in the summer months. You won’t know in advance whether it will be clear or not, so make sure you have appropriate expectations for your session. The good news is that your images will come out gorgeous, marine layer or not! As mentioned above, even if it appears foggy on the drive over, the coast might surprise you! The best time of year for a Half Moon Bay photo session is between January and April if you’d like a greater chance of there being sun in your images.
  • Be prepared for stairs! If you want to go down to the beach, be aware that there will be stairs to navigate. As a plus, stairs make accessing the beach easier than climbing down a rugged path. However, they can pose a challenge for some heavily pregnant moms-to-be as well as small children.
  • Parking is ample at many Half Moon Bay beach locations, including my most popular option – Manhattan Beach by the Ritz Carlton. There is a public lot nearby, but if that’s full, you can also park at the hotel.
  • Half Moon Bay is a convenient beach location for people who live on the SF Peninsula as well as those in San Francisco itself. It’s also so uniquely beautiful that clients from around the whole Bay Area seek it out for their sessions. Half Moon Bay photographers are sought after to capture this gorgeous landscape. Even if it’s a bit of a trek from where you’re located, you might find it worth it!
  • Bring a change of clothes in case you get wet! If you’re up for it, it’s fun to get in the water for some photos. Even if it’s not on purpose, once you’re down on the beach, chances are good you’ll get water on at least your feet.

For the session below, we were lucky enough to have the sun shining even though it was summer. Look how golden the cliffs look from above in the sunset light!
